The 2nd annual "Chasing Rainbows" Gala at the Fox took place on Sunday night, November 18, 2012 and featured the classic rock and roll of Steve Winwood. Mayor Bob and Beth Walkup were honored with the first annual Fan of the Fox Award. All proceeds will benefit the Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation's efforts to keep the lights on, the doors open, and high quality entertainment coming to YOUR Fox Theatre! Photos from the event will be available soon.
Steve Winwood's career, now well into its fifth decade, began in earnest when he and others formed the band Traffic (whose hits included the epic "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.") in 1967. In 1969 Winwood joined Eric Clapton and others for the short-lived "supergroup" Blind Faith. Winwood's solo career began in the late 1970s and included a string of highly successful albums in the 1980s, including Arc of a Diver (1980) and the Grammy Award-winning Back in the High Life (1986), with chart-topping hits that included: While You See a Chance, Valerie, and Higher Love. Since then Winwood has continued to record and tour regularly, and Rolling Stone magazine ranked him #33 in its 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
