Concerts by a diverse range of incredible performers, including legendary jazz guitarists Pat Metheny and John McLaughlin, renowned country rock musicians Jim Messina and Richie Furay, Israeli world music superstar David Broza, and AZ-based progressive rockers the Gin Blossoms;
2nd Saturdays downtown has proved a remarkable boon to the Theatre, bringing more than 1500 people through the doors of the Fox each month for a free night of great music. The music changes each month—from the avante-garde Portland Cello Project to the classic rock sounds of Creedence Clearwater Revisited to a standing room only show with the Tucson Jazz Institute’s Ellington Big Band—but the results are the same: the theatre is jammed with Southern Arizonans from all walks of life and of all ages;
Classic Hollywood films shown the way they were meant to be seen, in partnership with the UA’s Hanson Film Institute: In the past few months alone we’ve shown pristine archival prints of some of America’s most beloved films, including The Wizard of Oz (as part of our 80th Anniversary celebration!), The Big Sleep, Double Indemnity, Road to Rio, Holiday, and many more;
Recent screenings of films from exciting local film festivals like the Arizona Underground Film Festival and the Tucson Film and Music Festival, as well as a partnership with the UA School of Music’s which included a restored print of the classic Japanese film, Ran;
A wide variety of unique community events such as a Red Cross world music benefit for the earthquake victims in Haiti; the “Desert Classic” bodybuilding competition, the classic Mexican film series “Cine Plaza at the Fox,” film screenings by groups like the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Southern Arizona Road Runners Association, a Happy Birthday Tucson musical celebration programmed by Tucson Meet Yourself; and a theatrical run of Les Mis by the Christian Youth Theatre.
